GENERAL INFO: The Derby has returned to its traditional date of the first Saturday in May. You don't have to go to the track or satellite wagering center to win money...you can cash in this simple pool. All you have to do is pick the three different horses (one, two, three in order) that you think will finish in the money in the Derby and you could be the winner of this pool. The entry fee for the pool is $50 and multiple entries are permitted up to a MAXIMUM OF 5 ENTRIES. The way the winner of the pool will be determined is by totalling the mutuel payoffs of your three selected horses. You will be given an imaginary $2 win, $2 place, and $2 show bet on your #1 selection, an imaginary $2 place and $2 show bet on your #2 pick, and an imaginary $2 show bet on your third choice. The TOTAL return on your six bets determines the winner of the pool. As a tiebreaker, you are asked to predict the $2 win payoff for the winning horse. If there are 25 entries or more, there will be a three way split of the prize, with 65% going to the winning entry, 25% to the second place entry, and 10% to the third place entry (rounded to the nearest $50). If fewer than 25 entries, it is a 70/30 split. You enter the pool by email to me at abhand@earthlink.net . The ABSOLUTE DEADLINE for the submission of emails or online entries is Friday at 10:00 PM PDT before the Saturday race. (Yes, I know the race doesn't run until about 3 Saturday afternoon my time, but I'm often at the races or casino sports room early in the day on Saturday and need to get things posted at the website before I leave early Saturday. ) Some websites you might be interested in are http://www.equibase.com (you will be able to view or download past performance charts from that site) and http://www.kentuckyderby.com - the place to go for all Derby information (click on news). If a horse you select doesn't run and you don't submit a replacement, you will be given the lowest horse in the win odds that you didn't use as a replacement for the non-runner. You will be given mailing Instructions about where to send your checks or Paypal payments after the race. Don't forget when you send your entry to me at abhand@earthlink.net - include three horses in the order of finish AND the predicted $2 win payoff, which will be used as a tiebreaker if necessary.
